Meet the new films stars in Leeds!

by Kirsty – 20th Nov 2018

On Friday 16th November, in support of #iwillWeek2018, the young adult carers project from Carers Leeds went all out for the red carpet with their very own film premier! The room filled with young people, councillors, youth workers, and professionals from the NHS and Children’s Services before, Val Hewison, Chief Executive of Carers Leeds gave the opening speech.

Each film was then presented with a personal speech from a young adult carer. The films explore and tackle a number of issues that young adult carers face, including not letting our caring role define us and looking after ourselves. We finished by cutting our very own cake made especially by Carers Leeds and conversations with the numerous professionals who came to watch our films.

What can you do to help?

We are asking everyone to share our films below online via social media. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank everyone who attended and made the time to speak to us at the end of the premier. We hope to work with many of you in the future and in continuing our force in raising awareness and understanding of young adult carers in Leeds. Also a big thank you to Katie from Fly Girl Films and our Young Adult Carer Support Workers Hazell and Grace.

Please watch and share our films!

More about #iwill

The #iwill campaign was launched by HRH the Prince of Wales in November 2013. The campaign aims to provide social action opportunities such as volunteering, fundraising and campaign for young people by 2020. Every year in November the campaign is celebrated with  #iwillWeek. Thanks to funding from the #iwill Big Lottery Fund and Leeds Community Fund, the young adult carers worked with Katie from Fly Girl Films to create these five mini films to raise awareness of young adult carers in Leeds
